NMMI defeats East Mountain 5-1 to open district play

The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team defeated the East Mountain High School Timberwolves 5-1 on Thursday at NMMI to open district play.

The Colts scored first in the 3rd minute on a Jose Segovia goal for the Colts to give them a 1-0 lead. A couple minutes after the goal by Segovia the game was delayed due to lightning in the area. After the lightning surpassed the Colts got on the board again shortly after on a strike by Andres Bleizeffer  to take the score to 2-0. East Mountain would get a goal three minutes after the Colts second goal to narrow the gap to a 2-1 deficit going into the half.

Francisco Vazquez  scored the next goal for the colts to give them a 3-1 lead. Later in the half Alejandro Barcenas scored and to cap off the offensive night for the Colts Bleizeffer scored his second goal of the match to give the Colts a 5-1 victory.

Head Colt Soccer coach John Barbour was happy his players found the back of the net. “The guys work really well. We practiced our strategy earlier in the week and the guys executed it to perfection.”

Coach Barbour also credited some players who did not show up on the score sheet who played well.

“I think this was Luis Tzintzun’s best game of the year. He created multiple scoring chances for us and did what he needed to defensively.”

Tzintzun had a game high two assists for the Colts during today’s match with the other assist going to Mario Camou.
