Schooley is entering his 25th season at New Mexico Military Institute. He was the head coach for the junior college progeam for three years as well as an assistant coach for 14 years. He is also an instructor in the Physical Education Department and Assistant Athletic Director at NMMI.

Schooley is originally from Roswell, where he attended and played basketball at Goddard High School.  In the fall of 1981, he enrolled at NMMI.  He played basketball at the Institute for two seasons before graduating in 1983.       

He then spent a year at Eastern New Mexico University before transferring to McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from McMurry in 1986.        

Schooley’s first coaching experience was at NMMI in the spring of 1988.  He served as the assistant coach for the high school basketball team.  In 1992, he was promoted to head coach. In three seasons he obtained a record of 50-29 while making two state tournament appearances with one district championship.

In 1995 he took over as the assistant coach of the junior college program.  He served as the interim head coach for the 1999-2000 season while former head coach Reggie Franklin was on leave.  

Schooley and his wife, Stephanie, both reside in Roswell.  They have three children, Cameron, Lacie and Mitchell.
