Texico powers past NMMI

Up against the No. 4 ranked team in Class 2A, the New Mexico Military Institute Colts basketball team had their hands full with the Texico Wolverines.

Plagued by 20 turnovers, the Colts let a 10-point lead slip as the Wolverines came out on top with a 62-44 win Tuesday night at the Godfrey Athletic Center.

Junior Ricardo Mata led the Colts (9-4) with 15 points while junior Daniel Xibille had 12.

Texico (12-4) narrowly outrebounded the Colts, 35-29. Senior Luke Phipps tallied 19 points and nine rebounds while junior David Davalos added 15 points.
