The New Mexico Military Institute Bronco football team lost a nail bitter in the Championship game 36-35 at Navarro College on Saturday in Corsicana, TX.

The Bulldogs scored on the second play of the game and converted the two point conversion for the 8-0 lead with 14:26 to go in the first quarter. NMMI put together an eight play 54 yard drive and hit pay dirt on a 13 yard touchdown pass from Ephriam Tuliiloa to Sekope Latu to bring the score to 8-7 Bulldogs with 11:32 left in the first.

The Broncos scored the next two touchdowns in the second quarter. First score on a Tuliiloa pass to Bronte Griffin off of a four play 28 yard drive and the second touchdown on a Patrick Charles three yard rush. The touchdowns gave NMMI the lead 21-15 with 5:22 left in the half. 

Navarro got the lead right back scoring two of their own touchdowns to take a 29-21 lead with 1:25 left in the half.

The Broncos put up 14 points in the final 23 seconds of the half. Tuliiloa hit Taylin Nalls on a seven yard pass for the first touchdown to bring NMMI back to a one point deficit. After the Bulldogs fumbled the kick return Tuliiloa found Diego Miranda for a 14 yard touchdown with five seconds left in the half for a 35-29 NMMI lead at the half.

Both defenses stepped up in the second half to limit the offenses for both teams to one touchdown. Unfortunately for the Broncos the Bulldogs were the ones to score on an eight play 82 yard drive with five seconds left in the third quarter to give Navarro the 36-35 win.

Fred Jackson led the way for the Broncos on the ground. He collected 75 yards on 17 rushing attempts. Patrick Charles had the rushing touchdown along with his eight carry 41 yard performance. Ephriam Tuliiloa completed 16 passes for 173 yards and threw for four touchdowns. Taylin Nalls led the receivers with 46 yards on four receptions and a touchdown.

"I'm proud of the guys," said head Bronco football coach Joe Forchtner. "It's not on any one player it's just we came up one point short. They played hard and together during the game it just did not go our way."
