Michael Gibson embodies the spirit of a true student-athlete and an influential coach with an impressive track record. Having started his journey as a Valdosta State Blazer, he has traversed a path marked by resilience, excellence, and a commitment to uplifting others. Today, he not only imparts knowledge as a virtual adjunct professor of Africana Studies at VSU but also continues to inspire the next generation of athletes with his work on the sidelines.

Born and raised in Attapulgus, Georgia, Gibson's early achievements as an honor graduate and a remarkable mentor to Kirby Smart during his high school years in Bainbridge laid the foundation for his future accomplishments. His university years were split between Grambling State University and VSU, where he turned adversity to his benefit by transferring due to an injury.

He further honed his understanding of sports with a master's degree in Sports Management from Florida State University and earned the Fritz Pollard scholarship, demonstrating his commitment to advocating for equity in sports and embracing the vast platform it provides.

From his ten-year tenure as an educator and coach in Cobb County, his successful stint at Eastern Arizona College, and his triumphant return to VSU where he helped win the Gulf South Conference championship, Gibson has proven his prowess in coaching. His remarkable influence was further evident when he joined Cisco College in 2022, producing three linebackers that ranked in the top 10 nationally for tackles.

In his current role at NMMI, Gibson's Colts secondary has already made a mark with 11 interceptions in the 2023 season. While his professional achievements are numerous, Gibson's pride and joy are his two daughters, Regan and Rylee, who are a testament to his role as a father, mentor, and guide.
