Colts fall to Huskies on the road

The New Mexico Military Institute Colt football team was defeated on Saturday by the Hope Christian Huskies 31-0 at Milne Stadium in Albuquerque, NM.

During the Colts' first drive of the game they put together a 12-play drive that ultimately ended in a turnover on downs. The Colts had gotten the ball down to the Husky 23 yard line from their own 35, on a drive lasting 5:14.

The Huskies scored on their opening drive, a nine-play 77 yard trip to the end zone, giving them a 7-0 lead. The Huskies would score another touchdown before the quarter was out to give them a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter the Huskies scored a touchdown with 5:43 left to give them a 21-0 lead.

The Colt defense stood strong after a blocked punt which gave the Huskies the ball on the Colt 18 yard line. Hope Christian had a first-and-goal at the one yard line, but the Colts stopped them from getting into the end zone four times before time expired in the half.

Only a field goal was scored by the Huskies in the third quarter as the Colt defense showed momentum from thier goal-line stand, making the score 24-0.

The last score for Hope Christian was on a pass play from 18 yards out with three minutes left in the game giving them the win 31-0.

Head Colt football coach Randy Montoya praised his defense. “Our defense kept us in the game. Hope Christian is a great football team there is no doubt about it.”

NMMI’s defense allowed 10 points to the Huskies in the second half and held them to under 125 yards total offense.

Arturo Cuen led the Colts with a rushing average of 4.2 yards per carry during the game.

Next up for NMMI is their first district game against Dexter High School. This will be NMMI’s last regular season home game of the year. Game time is at 7 PM on October 19th.
