The Bronco baseball team finished off their four-game Western Junior College Athletic Conference series versus Frank Phillips with a pair of losses on Sunday, dropping Game 1 by a score of 3-2 and Game 2, 12-0.

In Game 1, FPC stated off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with one run on two hits. NMMI was unable to respond going three-up-three-down to end the inning.

The Plainsmen added another run in the top of the second to extend their lead, 2-0, then after a scoreless third, an FPC homerun made it 3-0.

The Broncos' first runs came in the bottom half. Angel Colon led off the inning with a screamer up the middle and was on first base when Miguel Soto came up to bat. On the first pitch, Soto hit a monstrous home run to left center field, cutting the lead to one and heading into the top of the fifth.

NMMI was able to score in their last two at-bats. They did have a runner off first in the bottom of the seventh but hit into a double play to end the game.

Starting pitcher Gerry Lerma Jr. took the loss for Broncos, allowing nine hits and three runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Adrian Arpero came in for relief and lasted two innings with three strikeouts while surrendering only one hit.

Game 2 started out in a similar way for FPC. Christian Munoz started the game off with a leadoff triple and later scored giving the Plainsmen a 1-0 lead.  The Broncos were set down in order to end the inning.

In the top of the second inning, three NMMI errors allowed two more runs to come across the plate giving FPC a 3-0. The Broncos were unable to respond to the Plainsmen's two-run inning.

The top of the third was a struggle for the Broncos. They allowed three hits and luckily only one run thanks to a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning. The Broncos have yet to score and the Plainsmen added another run on an Institute error in the top of the fourth. FPC led 5-0 at the end of the fifth inning.

The Broncos never managed to get it together offensively only getting two hits in Game 2.

NMMI travels to Western Texas for a four-game series in Snyder, TX next weekend.
