In their second WJCAC conference series of the season, NMMI lost both games in Friday's first doubleheader vs. Midland College, 9-6 and 19-0.

NMMI held a 5-1 lead in Game 1, posting a five-spot in the bottom of the second after Midland opened up with a single score in the top of the first. The Broncos collected seven hits the stanza - six singles and a triple - along with a walk, to plate the five runs.

But that lead slowly disapated, as the Chaps got back one run in the top of the third, a pair in the top of the fifth, then went ahead on a five-run tally in the top of the sixth - thanks in large part to six bases on balls.

The Broncos were unable to score another run in either of their final two at-bats.

In Game 2, the Midland bats scored early and often, plating 19 runs on 20 hits in five innings of play.

NMMI had just two hits in the latter contest, compared to 12 in Game 1.

Three players for the Broncos had a multi-hit doubleheader: Grady Frost was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles an RBI and run scored; Miguel Soto was 2-for-4 with a single, double, RBI and run; and Estevan De La O was 2-for-4 with two singles, an RBI and run.

NMMI Game 1 starter Eric Estrada went five complete innings for no decision, giving up four earned runs on six hits, along with 5 Ks and one walk. David Chavez got tagged with the loss on two-thirds of an inning pitched, five earned runs and three walks.

Starting pitcher Matthew Marquez took the loss in Game 2, allowing eight runs and eight hits over three innings.

NMMI [16-10, 4-2] will try and shake off Friday's setbacks and salvage a series split against the Chaps [11-10, 4-2] with another pair of games on Saturday at the NMMI Ballpark; first pitch slated for 12:00 pm.
