Gavin Maloney collected four hits in four at bats, as the New Mexico Military Institute Colt varsity baseball team defeated Loving 16-1 in the first round of the Hal Bogle Classic.

Maloney had three singles in the first, second, and fourth innings, along with another hit in the fourth - a double - as the Colts batted around.

NMMI got on the board in the first inning when Alejandro Lopez doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs in route to a four-run start.

Their big inning came with a seven-run posting in the top of the fourth. Alejandro BarcenasAndres BleizefferGunnar SchwabJake Leible, and Maloney all contributed with RBIs.

Lopez got the win for the Colts. He surrendered one run on three hits over three innings, striking out three. Connor Roe threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen, downing three consecutive Loving batters to close out the game.

NMMI totaled 15 hits in the mercy-rule shortened game. MaloneyBleizefferLopezRoe, and Leible each racked up multiple hits for the Colts.

With the win, the Institute moves to 5-0 on the season and stays in the winner's side of the Bogle tournament bracket. They'll next face East Mountian - who defeated Mesilla Valley Christian in another run-rule shortened contest - at 4 pm tomorrow, Friday, March 16.
